Ministry Across the Spectrum: Autism, Faith, and the Local Church

By Dr. W. Russell Threet

Sunday morning worship is a comforting routine for many, but for families touched by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), it can feel overwhelming and isolating, often leading them to stay home despite a deep desire for faith and community.

This book seeks to bridge that gap by exploring the experiences of ASD families through the stories of three fictional but representative households, highlighting both the challenges they face and the practical ways churches can welcome them more fully.

Written from the perspective of a pastor and parent of an autistic child, it offers a compassionate, realistic starting point for congregations, leaders, and caregivers who long to see the church become a place of true belonging. My hope is that through these insights and examples, the body of Christ will grow in understanding and love, becoming a community where autism families can worship, serve, and thrive.

Endorsements:

“Russell’s insights are both theologically grounded and pastorally sensitive, rooted in real experience and genuine love for God’s people. We believe this book is a significant contribution to the church’s ministry in our time, and we recommend it wholeheartedly.” —Keith and Jennifer Foskey
“With theological grounding, Threet speaks to pastors, people in the pews, and parents of autistic children with compassion and biblical clarity. After reading this book, the church will no longer have an excuse for neglecting this part of the community.”—Dr. Cliff Johnson
“Russell draws from his personal experience and biblical counseling background to equip the church to walk faithfully alongside parents of children with autism. This book is an excellent resource for believers seeking to minister effectively to those impacted by autism.” —Bart Herrington
